Channel 4 To Televise IDL's People's Supermarket Project

by Mark Regan | Jun 20, 2011

The Supermarket will recruit around 3200 members in the first year.  As a members only cooperative they will pass substantial savings directly on to their volunteers through lower prices.  Each member commits to giving 4 hrs a month in time and pays an annual membership fee.

The Peoples Supermarket aims to provide food with “values” in essence utilising sustainable UK produce grown with care wherever possible. Stocking over 2500 lines and providing everything you would expect to find in a small supermarket.

We believe the business model has the potential to revolutionise the high street, and hope other entrepreneurs and communities will embrace the concept and open similar supermarkets across the country.  IDL are proud to be associated with this new initiative.

The first store has now opened in Lambs Conduit Street, London.  Channel 4 commissioned a 4 part TV series following our progress which will air this Sunday at 8pm.
